Networking Event Guidelines:
Before we attend an event, we should set criteria for what qualifies as a networking event.
A networking event should be a formal event for which you register.
Be sure you are “dressing the part” based on the audience there
Attend a minimum of 1 networking event every week.
Every networking event has a goal of 15 new connections that match your client profile.
Best Practices in Preparing for a Networking Event:
Order business cards - - Make sure you have at least 200 cards to hand out over the next 6 weeks. Submit a marketing ticker here for orders. If you’re submitting for CFG business cards, the first 200 are paid for by the firm.
Find networking events in your area
We’d recommend looking on Eventbrite, Meetup, and Hivebrite. Search keywords for your target markets (i.e. Boston Medical Professionals Networking)
Rehearse your elevator pitch and practice the FORM (Family, Organization, Recreation, Motivation) scripts
At the Event:
Your mindset going into the event should be their economic house is on fire - not because of what he or she is doing but rather what they
are not doing.
Tip #1: Take your business card out and ask them if they have theirs so you can exchange. If they don’t, give them one of your, along with a pen, and ask them to write their contact information on your card.
Tip #2: Write down key points from each conversation to include in follow-up.
After the Event:
Follow up within 24 hours. Phone script & email template here.
Follow up via phone; if no one answers, send an email recapping the event with the call-to-action to connect with you via Calendly.
